2024 is also a small milestone for the Permolat - Remote Huts group as well. It was established 20 years ago in an effort try and save some of the remote low-use huts that were dilapidating or under threat of removal by the Department of Conservation around that time.
The outdoor community had already witnessed several decades of slow deterioration of these unique facilities. Like the rest I had griped about the situation but thought that if I waited long enough, some higher power would come and fix things like they did in the old days.
