After the ‘shoegaze rave’ of his last album Daniel Avery returns with a pair of more straightforward and up-front club tracks, released by the label offshoot of his spiritualand are pure peak-time stompers, powered by thick, distorted bass and meaty drum machines. However, while the atmospheric touches of Avery’s albums are dialled back here, they’re not completely absent, as seen in the ethereal vocal hooks of and cavernous, echoey synths.
