ALKING MY DOGS DOWN BY A LOCAL chalk stream recently, I noticed some large holes and wondered what might have caused them. The holes were very close to the water so I didn’t think they could have been made by badgers. I also spotted a branch gnawed to a pencil shape and a tree that looked as if it had fallen across the stream. Could the holes have been dug by beavers? I live
