A very scenic anchorage
Simon Hiles
It had been an exciting and memorable day circumnavigating Mingulay. We were all relieved to now be in ended up attached to the sea bed by only 12m of chain. The Skipper slept through the increasing wind that blasted through the anchorage pummelling the decks with heavy rain. It woke both the crew, but as drifted around the anchorage neither those awake, nor himself asleep felt it. It was some surprise in the morning to discover we had drifted around 300 yards, fortunately onto gently shelving sand before the rocks, where the dangling anchor had got a grip. The Skipper still has confidence in his ground tackle, but for it to work it really needs to be on the sea bed.
