Green Grass blooms to seal national title

BRITISH SHOWJUMPING SPRING CHAMPIONSHIPS 21-24 March

PAUL BARKER and his great 12-year-old stallion Green Grass excelled against the clock to dominate the winter national 1.35m open championship final from first draw.

The son of Luidam has many wins on his record and found Nigel Jess’s track well within his scope. He scooted round with pony-like agility to set an insurmountable target, and remained a solid 2.36sec in front.

As Paul does not have another horse to run alongside him, making international shows prohibitive, Green Grass often goes to fellow Yorkshireman John Whitaker for such events. John jumped him at the London International, while Paul had the ride at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS).
