WILL THE DRAGON ROAR FOR DUTY FREE IN 2024?

The travel retail business has high hopes the Chinese Year of the Dragon will perform rather better than the Year of the Rabbit, last year’s zodiac sign. Industry watchers expected Chinese travel to rebound quickly in 2023 after the country fully reopened its international borders following three years of Covid-19 restrictions. Sadly, high ticket prices, a lack of flight availability, and delays in processing visas contributed to a year of lacklustre recovery.

The early signs are that 2024 will prove a lot more promising and if the number ofYear releases is anything to go by, whisky distillers are brimming with confidence too. For instance, Diageo Global Travel has unveiled a brand-new Johnnie Walker Blue Label Lunar New Year Limited Edition Design created by the award-winning Taiwanese-American artist James Jean, who is now based in Los Angeles.
