Pep up your Mac: Quick fixes

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND the first thing you do when bringing your retired Mac back into service is wipe its internal drive, reinstall its operating system and start again. See the guide later in this article for instructions. But if you don’t wish to do this, there are a few steps you can take to polish its performance.

Download AppCleaner from . Make sure you download the correct version for your operating system — for High Sierra, it’s AppCleaner 3.6. It’s free, and there are versions for even older Macs available. Launch it, and open your Applications folder.
