We’re sure many of you remember the good old build threads which appeared on car forums back in the day. Typically, a member would post a few images of an innocent-looking shopping car along with a long list of intended mods, and we either endlessly mocked or became insanely jealous. Whether their dream would become a reality or not was all part of the fun as far as the reader was concerned, but either way sifting through the many pages within a build thread proved to be highly addictive. Did FatRoy68 manage to fit those 20” three-spoke rims on his XR3? We’d all have to keep checking back to find out. And while a similar theme continues on social media today, it came as no surprise when build threads started to materialise in video form too.

Nowadays we’re more than familiar with YouTube and we’ve seen many content creators gain countless followers, especially when it comes to anything car-related. One such automotive YouTube sensation is Shmee150, who has now amassed no less than 2.57m followers and, fortunately for us,the extremely rare factory orange RS may have seemed a touch too special to be ripe for major modifications, this comparatively commonplace 1-of-300 Red Edition proved to be the perfect blank canvas. Meanwhile, Ford fan Stuart Mason was ready to watch the progress online with eager anticipation…
