An Elite Invasion

Late-2023 saw the beginnings of an unlikely partnership between two of the world’s foremost wrestling promotions—and 2024 brought a boiling rivalry between its wrestlers

STARTING IN LATE-JANUARY, some of the most popular luchadores from the world’s oldest promotion, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (Mexico’s CMLL), took a series of daring leaps on AEW Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision.

It all began with iconic luchador Mistico competing in what looked to be a one-off against Rocky Romero on Rampage late last year. But that quickly evolved into a full-on invasion of All Elite Wrestling, when Hechicero, Volador Jr., and the aforementioned Mistico attacked Jon Moxley on an episode of Dynamite and subsequently declared war on the Blackpool Combat Club.

Thus, AEW fans met six premier luchadores, ranging from some of the smallest to some of the largest, veterans and promising rookies alike. But who, exactly, are these six invading luchadores from CMLL?
