BOAT ANGLER
Using lures to target specific fish is one of the most dynamic and exciting methods available to boat anglers. Rather than just waiting for your bait to attract a passing fish you’re actively stimulating an aggressive reaction. The results can be very spectacular with savage takes and, on relatively light tackle, spectacular fights.
Lures are now a vital part of a boat angler’s armoury. But the vast array of products available can cause confusion even for experienced anglers; however, by selecting a few simple tried-and-tested designs, and by learning their limitations and how to fish them properly, you can quickly master the art.
Over the years I’ve used a wide variety of methods to lure fish and I’ve seen some really inventive ways anglers are developing to target all sorts of species. There aren’t many marine species which won’t take a lure and it’s increasingly a go-to method for a lot of boat anglers. Probably only conger, rays and other elasmobranchs are the only species I haven’t tried to tempt with a lure.
