Dirt DIARIES

Dear Tanya…

Please help! What is happening to my Prunus tree? This is the second summer this has happened. The leaves start browning from the lower branches and slowly move upwards. I worry that it is contagious and fear for a nearby weeping mulberry which is new to the garden. Your advice would be appreciated and thank you for an awesome magazine.

Kind Regards, Anne Whitehead

Winning letter

This was a tricky one – I had to do much research to pin it down. I do however love these questions because we are forever learning. What you have is Shot Hole disease – don’t confuse this with the shot hole borer.

Shot holewater-soaked greyish marks on the underside of the leaves, this normally progresses to fungi – which look like dark purple spots.
