Cyber attack row: We don't want to 'start trade issues' with China, says Cabinet minister

A Cabinet minister said the Government does not want to “start trade issues” with China after calling out a cyber attack on the Electoral Commission.

The Government has been accused of being too weak in its response to attacks by Chinese state-based actors on Britain, with two individuals and one company being sanctioned.

Speaking on GB News, Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said the action announced on Monday was a “first step”.

She added: “It’s a complex issue clearly.

“Clearly starting some sort of trade issues is what we want to avoid as well.

“It’s complex but we do need to be firm as well and we have been working with our allies
