I previously mentioned in part 5 that I was fitting a CB900 oil cooler. The easiest way to do this is get all the parts needed (oil pump, sump casting, hoses, fittings and the cooler matrix) from a CB900 and bolt them on. I thought having 40-year-old hoses wasn’t a good idea and all this depended on what parts were out there anyway.
In the CB750.com forum pages were details of how this could be done, so I started looking for the parts. Straight off the mark and I found a cooler matrix and oil-pump fairly local (the CB900 pump has an extra chamber to pump oil through the cooler, see Photo 1), so I bought them.
A sump wasn’t so forthcoming shows me checking the pump out for flatness and all parts were in really good condition (the original pump had been chewed away by the debris in the oil). is the start of the machining of the extra oil galleries to link the oil-pump feed out and return to sump; this has to be done with a high degree of accuracy. shows these completed and the cardboard templates I made to give me the shapes of the hose fitting flanges needed.
