James and Carol Sumner always had eyes for each other – it was undeniable.
Highschool sweethearts in North Charleston, unfortunately, life had pulled them in different directions.
James, known as Reggie, served in the US Navy and got married and divorced, before working for the CSX Railroad.
Meanwhile Carol, 61, was a devoted mother – but she didn’t appear to be lucky in love.
Like Reggie, also 61, her first marriage ended in divorce – but her second nearly killed her.
In 1987, her abusive husband shot her, before shooting himself.
But Carol was a force to be reckoned with.
Within a year, she was back on her feet, putting in 25 years as a civil servant. She even worked nights at a department store and other odd jobs.
