Sportsman Surprise

Dear Classic American, Just dropping you a line, as I was so surprised to see that the Lake Como event was won by a base model DeSoto Firesweep Sportsman! With the very different front end to its Senior models, it does stand out from them, also it’s really (rivets counted!) a hardtop rather than a coupe, which in DeSoto parlance means she wears a Sportsman badge, whether two- or four-door, which takes me on to the ‘Next Month’ page where you illustrate ‘Finest Fifties Landyachts’ with a DeSoto Fireflite Sportsman, i.e. four-door hardtop. Note the front-end styling difference between Senior and Junior. All of which for me, a Sportsman Owner, was a pleasure to see and something to write in about!
