PILES

Have you ever been warned not to sit on a cold or wet floor as it causes piles? Well, your chance of developing these during pregnancy increases by 100 percent!

Piles – also known as haemorrhoids – are enlarged blood vessels in the anal canal. Lots of people get them, but they usually only create discomfort when they prolapse from the anus.

Piles are mostly caused by straining when you're making a poo and have constipation (another common niggle discussed here) and pass hard stools.

They damage the lining of the anal canal and the protective layer of the blood vessels.

Weak blood circulation around this area is another cause and the reason why piles often occur during pregnancy.

Your baby's weight (and your uterus that's filled with amniotic fluid) can become so heavy that it makes it difficult for blood to circulate properly down there.
