COVER MEETINGS

Tuesday was the day we had cover meetings and they were easily the most stressful aspect. The cover is clearly the most important aspect of the magazine as you’re using it to sell the mag. As a result of that, anything you did came under intense scrutiny because it needed to be as good as possible. We’d always take in four options at the beginning of a new issue and would typically have to work on two or three options at a time until we were left with the best option (sometimes till the very last week). The upside was that we had the best possible cover to entice potential readers with; the downside was that we ended up with a lot of wasted covers. Fortunately, we’ve been able to revisit several of those lost covers, so not all of them went to waste after all.
