The happy house plant guide Part 5: Repotting

If you really want to get to know your house plant, check out what’s going on out of sight at compost level. Checking the rootball gives you a chance to find out whether it’s time to repot – and repotting at the right time can make the difference between a miserable plant and a thriving one.

The good news is that not all plants will need repotting at the same time. But failing to spot when it’s time to do so will quickly impact the plant in the form of stalled growth.

How often your house plants need an upgrade depends on their size, species and your care regime. Some vigorous species may need a pot upgrade twice a year, while more mature specimens and slower growers will be content in the same pot for several years.
