CORDUROY

WHAT IS CORDUROY?

Corduroy is a woven cotton with a plain or twill weave base fabric. Additional weft yarns are woven with long floats over warp yarns. These floats are then cut to create uniform ridges that run vertically down the lengthwise grain.

The ridges are known as wales or ribs. The number of wales per inch explains what type of corduroy it is. There are three types – pinwale or needlecord (16-23 wales per inch), regular or midwale (10-14 wales per inch)
