This is the sort of story that should have started in a pub. At closing time. But it didn’t.

Instead, it was at a family barbecue, where my dad mentioned to me that a friend was downsizing and had an old Mini in the garage that he was going to have to get rid of. He asked if I knew anyone who was looking for a Mini project: “It probably needs a lot of work as it’s been off the road a while.”
