Fairy Tales

ainter and sculptor Henrique Oliveira, born in Brazil in 1973, is a an interactive exhibition by the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery Of Modern Art (QAGOMA), with a web of gnarled branches that erupt from the sterile, white walls of QAGOMA. It took Oliveira and his team over two weeks to assemble Corupira on site; layer upon layer of plywood was stapled together, returning the waste timber to its original – if possibly more fantastic – form. Oliveira salvaged much of the plywood from Brazilian construction sites, and the rest is sustainablysourced eucalyptus plywood, as well as salvaged driftwood pieces.
