THE SIX Nations is an unforgiving arena and poses a significant challenge for Gonzalo Quesada, the new head coach of Italy. The former Argentina fly-half intimated in the pre-championship media that he was a fan of the existing game plan, so it will be interesting to see how this Azzurri team develops its own style as the games progress.

Italy have some outstanding young players. In recent years their U20s have beaten many of their Six Nations contemporaries and this is coming through in the Italian franchises Benetton and Zebre Parma, who are more competitive in the United Rugby Championship than ever before.
