The Battle of Flamborough Head marks its 245th anniversary on 23 September 2024, and for many, it will be a poignant reminder of a pivotal moment in the American Revolutionary War.
The battle in September 1779 saw a Franco-American squadron of four ships, including the (named after Benjamin Franklin’s pseudonym ‘Poor Richard’) under the command of Scottish-born American Patriot John Paul Jones, attempt to attack a large convoy of merchant vessels laden with supplies for the UK Government.
