MILE HIGH musts

“The respect I have for the MCA is second to none—that whole team. It’s amazing how much energy and time they put into our community.”
—Don Strasburg

BE THERE Please tell us what’s cooler than a party at a museum? We’d wait for your answer but there’s really no need, because museum parties are next-level cool. And so are you! Which is why you need to be at MCA Denver’s Spring Exhibition Opening Party on Friday, March 8 to celebrate the opening of the three spring exhibitions: Galas Porras-Kim: A Hand in Nature, Steven J. Yazzie: Meandered, and Ken Gun Min: The Lost Paradise. Like any good party, there will be drinks, music, and vibes … so many vibes. Opt for the VIP tix and get there early for the reception for passed bubbles, small bites, andremarks from the artists and curators. mcadenver.org

“We’re a serious community. We’re serious about the good things in life. The quality of our music venues is the best in the world. The quality of our beer—we take beer seriously. We take mountains seriously. We take athletics seriously. Our community expects a really well-executed experience, and that forces all the people around to deliver it. When the bar starts at Red Rocks, people have high expectations, and it resonates in the entire arts and cultural community.” —Don Strasburg

There are still some homes that haven’t been flipped, some old chainlink fences, but you also have nicer places—graffiti and murals.

“I wanted to do my headshots in front of my favorite mural, so we reached out to Thomas Evans, aka Detour. I’m such a fan. He is a true artist and a muralist—if you just gave him a can of paint, he would do something so dope.”—Ben Jacobs

“I love MCA—they do great events, and it’s got a little bit of a younger, hipper clientele. They have a rooftop cafe there that’s really cool to hang out in. I like that a lot.” —Juan Padró

“I love Ken Gun Min’s work; he’s one of the three exhibitions opening at MCA in March. K Contemporary Art shows his work. He does these expansive landscape paintings that are really mixed media. They could have some embroidery, some beadwork, or other things in them, and they are really beautiful and they are big.” —Ellen Bruss
