Lost in New York

IT was late on Wednesday when Oscar De La Hoya confirmed that the April 20 encounter between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia is set for the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York.

Despite its rich history as the mecca for all major fights, the Big Apple has seemingly fallen behind Las Vegas and now Saudi Arabia due to its lack of vast site fees and the state tax in New York. So it felt like a bit of a throwback when this clash, one of the biggest of the year, between a pair of fighters from California, would land in New York and The Week, for one, fully endorses the idea. The city’s many boxing fans will do too. Sadly, Garcia doesn’t but more on that later this week.
