Budget did not fund ground-breaking ideas capable of spurring on economic growth

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana on Wednesday presented a R2.37 trillion government Budget against a backdrop of a consistently under-performing economy, characteristic of a country stuck at a low level equilibrium.

It is estimated, for instance, that the South African economy grew by a measly 0.6% in 2023, down from 1.9% in 2022. Since 2012, the country’s economic growth has averaged 0.8%.
