T’S a pity that Sir Edwin Landseer’s best-known work is his 1851 . The painting of that mighty stag set in a dramatic fog-swept Highland landscape has adorned countless shortbread tins, but he produced much better stuff. Should you find yourself at the Kennel Club in Mayfair, ask if you can look at the art downstairs—Landseer, I think you’ll agree, was better at dogs.
