Spotlight on… fridges

YOUR REFRIGERATOR, like any other gas appliance in your caravan, must be serviced at regular intervals.

Major manufacturers, such as Thetford and Dometic, recommend an annual service. However, this only applies to absorption or three-way fridges.

First, let's take a look at the types of refrigerators commonly found in leisure vehicles.

Absorption fridges

Absorption fridges, also known as three-way fridges (1), can be found in most touring caravans.

Heat is used to circulate the refrigeration chemicals around the cooling unit. The heat used to provide the energy comes from one of three sources:

A burner that operates on either butane or propane gas.
