Heat of the moment

It will come as no great surprise to hear an internal combustion engine has an optimum working temperature where everything is right and the power produced is what the designer intended and delivered where it’s needed. In an ideal world the engine would reach this temperature quickly and remain there while it’s in use. We don’t live in an ideal world though and lots of factors affect the temperature an engine works in. Here in the UK there can be a 30C or more swing from the coldest day at the start of a trial or scramble to the warmest of summers and it’s not only the rider who has to adjust but the bike too.
