The 2023 LVMH Prize finalist and Karl Lagerfeld Prize winner Luca Magliano—Luchino to his friends—describes himself as “controversial.” The Bologna, Italy-based designer’s stylistic approach is rooted in utility, and he draws from his home city’s strong cultural affinity with its working class—both past and present—when creating his slightly off-kilter collections. “[Bologna] is a laboratory of people who look at and listen to each other and still have a strong political identity,” says Magliano. “I amI belong to the working class. This is my story, and I want to claim it with pride.”
