Who is Kemi Badenoch? Tory MP accuses Post Office chairman she sacked of seeking revenge

Kemi Badenoch has criticised the former Post Office chairman after he alleged a senior civil servant told him to “stall” spending on compensation to subpostmasters before the next general election.

Henry Staunton, who was sacked by Ms Badenoch last month, told the Sunday Times that the alleged request was linked to concerns about the cost of compensation heading into the election.

But Ms Badenoch slammed the suggestion, accusing the former chairman of “disgraceful misrepresentation”.

She also told MPs in the Commons on Monday (February 20) that there was "no evidence whatsoever that this is true".

"For Henry Staunton to suggest otherwise, for whatever personal motives, is a disgrace and it risks damaging confidence in the compensation schemes that ministers and civil servants are working so hard to deliver," she said.
