Blazing a trail

INSPIRED BY THE AESTHETIC BEAUTY of nature, Dorien draws predominantly with watercolour and ink, developing a distinctive style rich in texture and detail. She illustrates not only her own stories but those of other authors too. Each flick of Dorien’s brush is carefully chosen to enrich, inspire, entertain and bring a narrative to life. She aims to create dynamic and detailed illustrations that carry readers through their reading journey as they turn each page, creating books you can go back to, time and time again.

Here, she takes us through the process of illustrating a page in her latest picture book an extended poem about evolution for five to seven-year-olds, written by Elli Woollard.
