Bacewicz’s music is always absorbing, with great rhythmic drive and underlying tension. The works on this beautifully performed disc add playfulness and sonic adventure to that drama: both the Symphony No. 2 and Musica sinfonica in tre movimenti have a neo-classical zip, and creative musical figures (a string quintet’s tremolandos and trills, for example) abound.
