Taking flight

WATERCOLOUR PROVIDES US with the ideal medium for expressive techniques with its translucent, colourful and playful qualities. The painting process is a two-way conversation. It is about how we interact with the medium; allowing watercolour to do its thing and then reacting to what we see on the page as we drop, splash, blend and lift the paint.

Why have I chosen birds to be the main subject for my first book?

Perhaps most importantly, birds bring us joy, hope and wonder, whether it is the sight of a little robin watching over us as we garden or the hypnotic sound of swans flying overhead. The chirps, trills, caws and hoots of bird calls are some of the most uplifting sounds I experience when walking my dog.
