The Field

An ode to four-legged friends

NDC In the mid-1980s we had a labrador called Jet, who was said to be the best dog in three counties. This was not an accolade won through exquisite breeding or expert training but rather because when he jetted off from the peg, he would work the neighbouring three counties all by himself for the rest of the day.

He was an absolute machine, with intelligence, stamina, nose and eyes that were all correct but not necessarily in the right order. He came to us fromground in the next county before looking around to see how he might return.
