Putin must be held accountable for Navalny’s death, Cameron says

Vladimir Putin must be held accountable for the death of jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the UK Foreign Secretary has said.

Lord David Cameron said there should be “consequences” for the Russian President after the country’s prison agency said the 47-year-old politician and anti-corruption campaigner had died.

Russia’s federal prison service has said in a statement that Mr Navalny became unwell after a walk on Friday and lost consciousness.

An ambulance arrived, but Mr Navalny died despite attempts to resuscitate him, the agency said.
