EL TREN DEL FIN DEL MUNDO

Introduction

In 1994, the company Tranex Turismo S.A. decided to revive this legend and founded the famous “End of the World Train” as it is known today, starting its activities on October 11 of that same year.

The Southern Fuegian Railway (Spanish: Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino (FCAF)) or the Train of the End of the World (Spanish: El Tren del Fin del Mundo) is a 500 mm (193⁄4 in) gauge steam railway in Tierra del Fuego Province, Argentina. It was originally built as a freight line to serve the prison of Ushuaia, specifically to transport convicts and timber. It now operates as a heritage railway into the Tierra del Fuego National Park and is considered the southernmost functioning railway in the world and arguably one of the finest journeys in the world.

Today it has Tourist Class and First Class, with service on board as well as replicas of the old steam locomotives not to mention 2 Garratts! Not quite the level of comfort the convicts had when the railway started - the passenger cars have heating and a modern audio system to relive the journey and the history of the End of the World Train.

The Trip

The tour starts at the “End of the World Station”, which is only 8km away from the city of Ushuaia, rescuing the last 7 kilometres of the original route with an intermediate stop at “La Macarena Station” where passengers can enjoy a great panoramic view and then continue the tour, to enter the National Park, Tierra del Fuego, from where you can continue visiting the same, walking or boarding another land transport to continue enjoying the landscapes and charms of the National Park.

The route takes passengers along the Pico Valley in the Toro gorge and to Cascada demountains, reaching El Parque station where tourists can return by coach or train.
