According to official figures, we are a nation of monochrome lovers. The top three colours chosen by UK’s new car buyers for the past five years were grey, black and white. Even for the more adventurous and style-conscious MG buyers it has always been rare to see a truly bold colour choice, except in press and brochure pictures.

It means colours like the Amaranth (purple) and Volcano (orange) offered on the MGF launch cars are rare, as few buyers were brave enough to choose them. As a result, they were short-lived options and quickly replaced on the MG colour charts with less controversial shades. It means these colours really stand out when you see one on the road or at a show, among the lines of greys and blacks.
