We started a couple of years ago with our theoretical neophyte cyclist breathlessly fighting their way off the sofa to take the first baby steps towards athletic transformation. Early physiological adaptations created a slipstream effect that has both bolstered their nascent performance and elevated their mood. But now they have hit the inevitable plateau as they start the lifelong ascent of the Col de Diminishing Returns.
