The coldest place on earth

WAS SURPRISED BY THE REPORT IN YOUR January issue that the Soviet Vostok Station on Antarctica was the coldest place on earth. I can experientially confirm that Castle Dyke Playing Field on the moors outside Sheffield is colder still. Global warming may have taken the edge off from the days when my school did sports there in the 1970s, but I’m sure it’s still as exposed as ever.
