and it was on my radar for a potential career after doing an English and Theatre Studies degree. I sent CVs to Sotheby's, Christie's, Bonhams and Phillips, and I started as a warehouse porter at Sotheby's in the summer of 1999. It was a baptism of fire – hard, physical work but a lot ofremember moving an 18th-century cabinet and popping one of the glass panels by accident. Guilt-stricken, I told the boss, who said that worse things had happened and thanked me for my honesty. It was a lesson in life.
