UK house prices rise 1.3% in January as mortgage rates tumble

UK house prices rose by 1.3% in January, according to Halifax, as lenders slashed their mortgage rates during the month.

House prices were up 2.5% year-on-year across the UK.

In , the average was down 0.4% year-on-year at £529,528, bucking the wider trend of growth. The figure for London is slightly higher than the £528,798 average price for December,
