SIR JOHN NO 5 MOVES ON

Peter Stanier, the well-known, knowledgeable and redoubtable character has been realigning his collection of vehicles following his return to West Kent after his heart attack in the West County, from which he is recovering well.

Peter has passed his amazing 1917 Fowler AA6 No. 13877 282 HYR (or registration NO 5) Sir John ploughing engine to Reuben Hopper from Bredgar, Kent who has been stripping the engine down in preparation for replacing the firebox and more.

Peter purchased for £2,000 in 1972 from Ken Stewart in East Anglia; previous to that in 1968 Richard Pierce had). Peter had met the Pierce brothers through his wife Sally who was part of the local Young Farmers. At the time the Pierce team really needed another engine to go ploughing with as they were getting invited to various rallies and ploughing matches, but it was hard finding another partner in the area.
