Keeping Collections Consistent

I thoroughly enjoyed Mike Thorne’s article on “Hole Fillers” in the Jan. 2, 2024 issue of Numismatic News.

Like a lot of collectors, I started at a very young age, pulling what coins I could find from pocket change – my own, and that of friends and family. As a consequence, most of my collections consisted of circulated grades of Good to Fine. I still have almost all of those original coins, except for a few that I have swapped out for nicer examples over the years. Because of that fact, I have kept with the same theme of collecting lower-grade circulated coins. Although my collection does include several EF to AU coins, and pristine MS examples of the newer coins gleaned from bank rolls, when it comes to filling those holes in my older sets, I rely on coins ranging from About Good to
