Dover is probably one of the best-known towns in Britain, but also one which few visitors spend much time in. For most, it’s seen as the point of departure for the continent, the point of arrival back in the UK after going abroad or, more recently, a place of extreme congestion due to delays in making that crossing.
But the town itself has much to offer. There’s the castle of course, and the WW2-era fortifications underneath. And on a clear day the views from the famous ‘White Cliffs’ are every bit as impressive as you’d expect.
But for transport enthusiasts there’s something else as well; since 1983 the Dover Transport Museum has been home to a unique collection of transport history including a fine selection of commercial vehicles.
