Modelling Inspiration: The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway

Often running through attractive countryside, and with an interesting range of locomotives and rolling stock, heritage railways offer considerable layout potential. Among them is the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway (E&BASR), which operates along the fourmile line between Embsay, near Skipton, and Bolton Abbey in North Yorkshire.

First established as the Embsay & Grassington Railway Preservation Society, it was British Rail’s decision in 1965 to retain the freight-only branch from Skipton to Grassington that would see the group concentrate its efforts on bringing back into operation a part of the recently-closed former
