Followers of National Hot Rod racing will be familiar with the current domination of the Vauxhall Tigra. An antiquated road car it may be (indeed, when did you last see one on the road?), its shape and floorplan have made it the perfect mount for National Hot Rod racing. Even now, despite efforts of Ford Fiestas, Lotus Exiges and Ginetta G40Rs to take over its mantle, it remains the car to have, witness Joey Palmer recently ditching his Fiesta in favour of a Tigra.
But Spedeworth Fabrications boss and 2018 World champion Billy Wood has a plan. It is a Mazda MX-5, the current generation of the Japanese pocket sportscar and, all being well, Wood’s mount will have its debut in March when the Hot Rod season resumes at Aldershot.
