LIFTING HER HEAD

It is the wonderful world of sights and sounds but - more than anything else - the sight of you, that stimulates your 3- to 4-month-old to lift her head when lying on her tummy. She is connecting the sound of your voice to the visual image of you walking towards her, forging the connection between the visual, auditory and the emotional parts of her brain. Facial recognition will be shown in her gleeful chortles, and kicking of her legs, indicating more connections. It is the interconnectivity between the different parts of the brain at this stage of development that is being recognised as an important milestone in socialemotional development.
