THE East-West Rail route is in the news now, as work on the project to reconnect the route between Oxford and Cambridge is nearing completion, with the newly rebuilt sections expected to be brought into use for test trains from spring 2024, with passenger services due to return at some point in 2025. Its reinstatement will provide a useful cross-country artery and also a potential feeder route for HS2.
