A BARRIER to entry to Digital Command Control can be the initial outlay on a digital system. Digital sound is a particularly expensive feature to adopt for anything other than a small fleet of models. Hornby’s new Bluetooth DCC system changes all that, whilst retaining compatibility with existing DCC systems. It uses Bluetooth short-range wireless technology for communication between mobile and fixed devices to create a wireless throttle DCC system using mobile devices such as smart mobile telephones. It bypasses a command station to communicate directly wirelessly to Hornby’s Bluetooth capable decoders using a bespoke app.
Since its introduction, HM7000 has been a success for Hornby with considerable net revenue being generated from 12 new products and 6000 app downloads. It is an encouraging start for the system which, on the whole, has received a lot of praise. The use of smart phones as DCC controllers is
